How do you communicate your needs while in the early stages of dating?

I really like open, straightforward and honest communication, but I feel insecure about how I should exactly do this while getting to know someone. How do you guys do this??

For example: I am seeing a guy. Before we met I told him I am still getting over my ex and am looking for friendship. He told me he isn’t looking for anything long term since he is moving away for a year next year and doesn’t have good experience with long distance.

But we hit it off really well and got really intimate quite soon. I wasn’t expecting to like him and be attracted to him this much, while also being fully aware of some incompatibility (I think). So rationally I know there is a high chance of it not working out, but I do really like him.

So even tho it’s only three dates, I just know this stuff and on the internet you have al this blabla about waiting for longer to bring ul this topic, but I am just thinking like: but if I know this, I just feel a really strong urge to just communicate this to him. Also I notice that our communication needs might be different. He is away for a small trip and barely answers, so communication is going really slow. I am fine with it, since I think he genuinely is that kind if person, but at the same time, that doesnt work for me. It’s okay if he is taking things slow, but I just know that will be an issue for me longer term.

Should I just bring all of this up next time I see him ir what should I do?? I don’t like the vagueness and acting cool of it all. I just want to be direct. It’s easier than trying to calculate my responses.

Tell meee, how do you guys go about these type of things?
