I had an idea for what could happen after reaching Mexico.

Instead of the game ending there, imagine the Government contacts you because you're the only survivor who actually made it, got the cure, and lived to tell the story.

They explain that a large group of survivors and soldiers are trapped in Chicago. They received one final SOS before all communication stopped. Every rescue mission they sent afterward disappeared, so they ask you to go instead.

The idea is that you return not as someone trying to survive, but as someone trying to save everyone else.

This would unlock as optional endgame content after finishing the normal game, so the original experience wouldn't change.

It's basically a second campaign where the goal shifts from surviving to rescuing survivors and uncovering what happened in Chicago.

I'm curious what everyone thinks. Would something like this fit Dead Rails as an endgame expansion?

This reads much more like a genuine player sharing an idea rather than a formal proposal, which tends to be received better in game communities.

# DEAD RAILS CONCEPT CARD #200

# SURVIVOR AS SAVIOUR

# The Returning of the Survivor as Saviour

*"The cure saved you. Now it's your turn to save everyone else."*

After lowering the bridge and finally reaching Mexico, you receive the cure and become immune.

Word of what you've accomplished reaches the Government. Out of everyone they've sent into the wasteland, you're the only person known to have made it back alive.

That's when they tell you about Chicago.

Before the cure was discovered, a large group of survivors, engineers, and soldiers managed to build a safe base there. But not long after, all communication suddenly stopped.

The last transmission they ever received was just one message:

**S.O.S.**

Since then, every rescue mission has failed.

No soldiers have returned.

No one knows what happened.

With no other options left, the Government asks you to take on one final mission.

You accept.

Not as someone trying to survive...

…but as someone determined to save everyone else.

# Story

This concept begins **Part 2** of the proposal.

Instead of ending the adventure after reaching Mexico, it opens an entirely new campaign.

Your role changes completely.

You're no longer fighting just to stay alive.

Now you're fighting to rescue the people who never escaped.

# Mission Objectives

✅ Rescue the survivors trapped in Chicago.

✅ Rescue the soldiers protecting the safe zones.

✅ Rescue engineers and other key personnel.

✅ Find out what happened to every missing rescue team.

✅ Uncover the mystery behind the silent city.

✅ Escape Chicago with as many survivors as possible.

# Design Philosophy

The original Dead Rails journey is about surviving long enough to reach the cure.

**Survivor as Saviour** asks a different question:

**What happens after you survive?**

Instead of replacing the current ending, this idea builds on it by introducing an optional second campaign with new objectives, new mechanics, and a much bigger story.

# Balance

The **SAS Mission** only becomes available after successfully reaching Mexico.

It doesn't replace the original game—it expands it, giving experienced players a challenging endgame while keeping the core Dead Rails experience exactly the same.
