Turning trauma into action

SUCCESS

I got the opportunity to work on a film about s*x trafficking in 2024. The documentary project took 3 years. Literally every other person working on the film got cancer except me. No joke. I won an Emmy for it. It was a powerful way not to feel so alone - I met many victims of trafficking and former pimps, law enforcement officials, people working with victims. Point is - took me years to talk about it, and this project not only validated my experiences but actually did something positive to shed light on the problem. I wasn’t trafficked myself but working on this project I saw how ubiquitous the problem of abuse is. It was a watershed moment for me. I’m not suggesting everybody go out and try to help others like this but there’s something wonderful about not feeling so alone and reclaiming your power. I stared into the face of evil and I didn’t flinch. If anybody wants to watch it (trigger warning in advance) comment and I can put the PBS link in a comment assuming the mods are ok with it. Peace.
