Best time of year for a cross country road trip?

Trying to plan next year’s trip. We’re both retired, late 60’s, have been cruising the last few years and our last scheduled cruise is in March 2027. Looking for the best time of year to do a cross country round trip from CT/USA with a northern and southern route in order to see the country while we still can. Have driven the East Coast many times, so looking for something different. Will be staying at hotels, not interested in camping or a TT as my old bones are past the point of fixing it on the side of the road!
