Hello! This isn't meant to be a rant. I'd like to have a discussion about the current meta.

Personally, I think this meta is actually pretty fun. Games aren't just about building the strongest possible board and winning automatically. You have to think through your lines, adapt to different situations, and even then you can still lose because of small decisions or tiny details. It really feels like there's a lot more back-and-forth than people give it credit for. Even when I'm playing Maliss, a deck that's often described as "go first and win," I've had plenty of interactive games.

My biggest issue isn't the decks themselves, it's the silver-bullet cards, Called by the Grave, pseudo-Called by the Grave effects like Crossout and Ash, and of course, the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler in YGO, Maxx "C". In my opinion, these cards shouldn't exist because they make going first even stronger and ruin a lot of games, even the ones I win, it's still not fun when I don't get to play the game.

A few days ago, I posted a screenshot of me winning on turn 1 because my opponents immediately surrendered. Why? They opened Fuwalos, Ash Blossom, and I had Ash Blossom, Called by the Grave, or Crossout. They would use Fuwalos to stop me, I Ashed it, then they could try to use Ash Blossom, I could Crossout it. They would end up going -2 for absolutely nothing before they even got to play.

As a Maliss player, Fuwalos doesn't completely stop my turn. It prevents me from building my best board, but I can still end on interruptions. However, when defensive cards are answered by even stronger defensive cards, the player going second is often left with no meaningful interaction at all. That doesn't feel fair.

Going first is already the strongest position in the game. We shouldn't have cards whose only purpose is to make going first even stronger.

I could talk more about Droll and Maxx "C" but... No one in their right mind would question whether you know Stalin and Hitler or not.

Is ts meta fun for you?
