EU citizen in Zurich - B permit pending, fired during probation. What happens?
Hi everyone,
I'm an Italian (EU) citizen and moved to Zurich for a permanent full-time job.
Here's my situation:
- Registered at the Gemeinde on 26 June and paid the B permit fee.
- I have an AHV number.
- I started working immediately and have now worked for about 5 weeks.
- My employer terminated me during probation, but I'm still officially employed until 15 July.
- I have not received the B permit approval letter yet and i have an appointment for biometrics.
- I called the migration office, but they said it's too early and they don't have my application in their system yet.
- Before moving to Switzerland, I worked in Italy for almost 4 years, so i should have enough working months to apply for an unemployment insurance.
My questions are:
- If my employment ends before my B permit is approved, is my application likely to be rejected, or can it still be approved as an EU citizen? Does this still applies with an unemployment insurance?
- Should I contact the migration office after my employment ends, or just wait for their decision?
- If I become unemployed, can I register with the RAV even though my B permit is still pending?
- Has anyone been in a similar situation and can share how it turned out?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this or knows how Zurich usually handles these cases.
