AoT pacing makes no sense to me

why is there a need for so much trauma dumping and flashbacks? The characters make no sense at all. Think about it:

you are born in a postapocalyptic setting, its true they havent had an attack in like 100 years but they are peasants born in poverty and knowing nothing else than surviving. Why are they so deep and emotional? That only makes them look weak like if they dont belong to the forces. Its hard to see them as cool and badass when all they do is whining and complain about being human meat for the titans. I just dont get it how isnt it obvious to them from the start. They tried to make every character important and ended up making all of them the same.

im half season 1 and im wondering if all the fucking show its gonna have these flaws.

If the founding titan can mind control everyone why not making them strong or emotionless instead of making them a bunch of whiny bitches
