Ozai and Long Feng are very similar

Discussion

Long Feng and Ozai are actually very similar, despite being on opposite sides of the war. Both of them have been raised in a courtly culture, and both were not born to rule. Both of them rise to power through guile and force. But what truly marks them out is both of them are isolated within their court/culture. There's no sign that either of them have ever been to the front line, led armies or organised campaigns. Even though Ozai as Fire Lord is ruling a warring army he never seems to leave his capital, just moving forces from afar through intermediaries. Neither of them has walked outside their respective court, seen the effects and suffering the war has unleashed. Instead they stay inside a tiny echo chamber where power and status are the only things that matter. Ozai's mania to expand his empire, and Long Feng's determination to bury his head in the sand, both stem from the fact they haven't the slightest idea what the war is actually like. Both of them just want to live in a tiny echo chamber and shut out any ideas that don't fit. Despite ruling their people they know nothing beyond the walls they raise around their courts.
