Just finished Worlds Apart for the first time

This post contains spoilers about season 30 - Worlds apart.

So I’m getting through my first watch through of Survivor US. I’ve been posting about the seasons when I finish them and I some of you like to read about first impressions so here we go.

I wanna preface by saying that this season was a hard watch for me. What I’ll write about it is solely based on what’s shown to us and I’m aware that it’s heavily edited and that there is probably tons of stuff that I don’t know about that led to the contestants acting the way they did, but coming out of it, I don’t think I enjoyed a single player from that season, apart maybe from Tyler. I am absolutely okay with Mike winning. I don’t know that we’d be buds in real life, but I also didn’t hate him. Will was really not deserving (again, from what we saw) and Carolyn would have been ok, because she did play some, but Mike, talk about the underdog story. His time in the show after the merge must have been miserable and it’s impressive that he managed to stay until the end (by basically winning everything).

I hated so many things about this season, yet I come out of it not hating the whole thing.

I like to write down my first impressions during the first episode, of the players and revisit them afterwards:

Don’t know how I feel about the theme.

So: she will rub people the wrong way for sure

Max: urgh. Too confident.

Carolyn: I feel like normally she would have done ok. On her tribe, probably not. (Revisiting: lol)

Joaquin: he’s out early.

Shirin: I think she’ll maybe do ok.

Tyler: I think he might make it work!

Blue collar:

Mike: I feel like he might manage to convince people to go with him somehow. Then he eats a scorpion haha

Lindsey: I feel like either she could do well if she convinces people to work with her, or she will be hated by everyone.

Dan: ooooh the girls are gotta get him out quickly (revisiting: oh how I wish they had)

Rodney: oh he’s gonna be out quickly. Unless he’s great at challenges, then he’ll make the merge and then they’ll vote him out. Unless someone wants a goat. People are gonna hate him. (Revisiting: unless they wanted a goat, it baffles me that he made it so far)

Sierra: she’ll be an agent of chaos. Maybe it’ll work, maybe it’ll be a disaster. (Revisiting: she was a lot calmer than I thought she would be!)

Kelly: she’s gonna be good I think.

No collar:

Jenn: She’ll get on people’s nerves or she’ll be super good.

Hali: she could do ok if she plays her cards well.

Vince: I’m sorry, a coconut vendor? What does that even entail? Fascinating! Also: he’s gonna be annoying for sure.

Joe: I think he is gonna do well if they don’t vote him out right away. Either the first one out, or he makes it super far.

Will: he’s gonna be liked.

Nina: she seems nice!

Ok going back on these. I don’t think I’ve disliked so many people in the same season before. I don’t even think I have a favourite player. I’m glad Mike won, but it’s basically because I didn’t want anyone but him or Carolyn to win, not because I wanted one of them to win…

Will said horrible things to Shirin.

I get that Shirin annoyed people, she’s very quirky, not necessarily in an endearing fun way, especially if you’re sleep deprived and hungry…

Nina seemed to have dug her own hole.

Rodney was absolutely vile

Dan seems like an entitled, self-absorbed, ”important” main character condescending person. Oh how he made me so angry.

I really hated that cast so much :(

The tribes were painful to watch, every interaction was painful, they were highly disfunctional… I would have been miserable!

A few thoughts as the season went (which reading them back made me realise that I hated almost everyone very early on):

On the duos picking dishonest or honest: WTH Joaquin and So! If you’re gonna pick dishonest, come up with a good story! They sucked, no one will believe them 😂

Rodney and the whole women should hold themselves to a higher standard than men 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 (I’m a man)

Haha Rodney’s face when Joaquin is voted out. Glorious. What a tool.

Episode 6
Jenn’s idol play was pretty good. Love how again, Rodney was convinced he was running the show haha.

Episode 7

Dang Rodney is awful. He’s horrible.

Urgh Dan also. So condescending and patronizing. Why are they all so awful

Episode 9

Woah. Mike at the auction, not buying the letter from home after they all agreed they all would. Probably made some ennemies and this might send him home! He bought it in the end, but by doing it might hurt him still (revisiting: it was annoying that Dan made the whole thing about him and all, but I think it was smart of Mike to apologise at the FTC).

I mean I get that Will is upset that they questioned his sharing all the food he got from being kicked out of the auction, but what he said to Shirin was absolutely vile. Too bad cause I kinda liked him, I thought he was funny and I liked that he shared his food, but I can’t like him anymore (and he was the only one I liked basically) :(

I like that Shirin stood her ground when Will asked to sit out the immunity challenge for his letter from home, but I kinda wish it was Jenn who objected, she seems like she doesn’t care about winning, and is staying just to hurt the other players chances (the ones that she thinks shouldn’t win), I feel like this was an opportunity to hurt Will’s game.

Tribal council is awful. Shirin vs Will, then Rodney screaming at Mike…

Episode 10

I love that Rodney isn’t able to win any challenges haha.

I kinda like that Mike is able to win immunity after immunity when they wanna take him out so much.

I’m sorry did Dan just compare being adopted to being a victim of domestic abuse? What a huge massive tool. Not saying that being adopted doesn’t leave marks, but come on.

Episode 11

Ok Rodney and his birthday. Damn he’s annoying. YOU SIGNED UP FOR THIS. You knew you were gonna be starving, smelling and miserable on that island for your birthday. It sucks for everyone. It just so happens the others’ birthdays are not during filming. They’re supposed to give up food for you? Get your head out of your ass. I hate him so much.

lol his ”genius” plan to act like he wants to be voted out. What an idiot. Of course Mike sees right through it.

Damn! I thought Tyler might manage to win the whole thing! Can’t believe they’re keeping Dan who they know has an advantage. Apart from Carolyn who wanted to keep her idol a secret, I would have expected them to get Dan out.

Episode 12

Haha the irony of Dan calling Mike arrogant and condescending 🤣🤣🤣 what a clown!

Ok I’m rooting for Mike now, just cause I hate everyone else (except Sierra, and Carolyn is entertaining). I just want everyone else to fail.

Episode 13

Mike’s mom is so cute!

Urgh Dan at his first tribal as a jury member 🙄 I hate him and Rodney so much.

I hate that they kept Rodney and Will over Sierra (I get it, but I hate it)

I feel like the water slide in the last immunity challenge was very dangerous haha

The fire making challenge between Carolyn and Rodney 🤣

YES RODNEY IS OUT! This makes me so happy.

Of course Dan is unbearable at the FTC

At least Mike wins. Not my favourite winner, but out of the possible options, this is ok.

I’m glad I’m done and can move on haha. This one might be one that I skip if I do a rewatch. At least it’s got a good underdog story
