30F with lots of mucus, sometimes blood, awaiting colonoscopy
I am 30F and fit and well. I don't smoke and drink very little. I am slim, do lots of sports and eat healthily - mostly vegetarian. No family history of IBD or bowel cancer.
Around six months ago I noticed my stools were slightly softer and there was mucus. The mucus increased and I would get urgency to go to the loo and just pass mucus mostly later in the day / evening. Sometimes I have noticed small spots of bright red blood on the stool or the mucus appears pink and blood stained. I did have a change in bowel habit which worsened during a period of some trips abroad but improved more recently. There were a few weeks last month where things almost returned to normal but the mucus and blood have since returned. I think I have lost a few kg weight. I have not really had abdominal pain or other symptoms and feel well.
I saw my GP and had bloods which were completely normal aside from a slightly low ferritin. Calprotectin negative. FIT 45.
I have a colonoscopy booked in a few days and am so scared this could be bowel cancer which has now been ongoing for months. I am dreading the bowel prep and whole procedure.
