First espresso set up - Grinder? PID? [$1500]

Hey gang! I'm moving across country with my girlfriend next week and we've saved up a bit of money for an espresso set up to celebrate the move. We're hoping to stay under 1500 total, and have our eye on a Rancilio Silvia. (Totally open to other machines) But...

When it comes to a grinder, I have no idea what to look for. What makes a good grinder good? Most of these grinders seem to be the same, but that might be my lack of experience.

Also - should we pay a bit extra for the PID? I've read lots of different opinions and am genuinely lost
