AITAH for asking for my 10-day notice pay?
where i live, we have two types of work arrangements. one of them has very strict labor laws and gives employees a lot of protections and benefits when they get fired. i’m mentioning this because most people on here are probably from the us or uk, where things work differently.
there’s also another type of contract that became legal a few years ago. it’s more like a regular contract where you usually earn more, but when the company ends it, you basically don’t get many benefits.
in my contract, it clearly said that if the company wanted to end the agreement, they had to give me 10 days’ notice. if they didn’t, they would have to pay those 10 days instead. it’s not a small amount of money.
the thing is, they didn’t give me any notice. they just surprised me and ended the contract. now they’re saying they won’t pay the amount that’s in the contract.
my parents think i should just let it go because i could face backlash. where i live, it’s pretty common for people to get a bad reputation after taking legal action or asking companies to respect their contracts.
but honestly, i feel like it’s just fair to ask for what was already agreed. am i being unreasonable for wanting the company to pay the 10 days they owe me?
