Ever wonder if you're missing footstep/gunfire direction under your own gunfire or comms noise?

Discussion

Been running an experiment on recorded Warzone gameplay — trying to figure out how much directional audio info actually gets missed during a fight.

Set up a simple detection script that listens for directional bias in the audio — footsteps, gunfire from a specific side — and flags it separately (software popup: LEFT/RIGHT), without touching what's actually being played back. Audio output stays 100% untouched, this is just a parallel listener.

What surprised me: a lot of what triggered the LEFT/RIGHT popup turned out to be really faint sounds — likely distant gunfire — that I hadn't consciously registered while watching the same clips back. Especially in moments with comms chatter, announcer lines, or my own weapon firing, there's apparently a constant stream of low-level directional cues getting buried under louder, closer noise.

Screen recording below is just the detection software's popup overlay on recorded gameplay — no hardware, no audio processing shown, just LEFT/RIGHT flags triggering in real time.

Genuinely curious if this matches what serious players experience — do you feel like you're missing distant/faint directional cues in chaotic fights, or is this a non-issue for people with good headsets/audio setup?
