When you look at this team from top to bottom, you see no one other than Shreyas who can actually bat at different paces according to the pitch. Look at the top 3 alone. No one gives you stability. Abhishek, Vaibhav and Ishan all made it to the time because of how "destructive" they are rather than pure cricketing skills and with how bad the pitches in the IPL are, their capabilities seem exaggerated. The top order fails so consistently and rarely ever do you see India not losing more than one wicket in the powerplay. Sure, they might completely bat out the other team on a given day, but that's just so rare, especially outside of India.

Then you look down the order, Tilak, in an attempt to be an anchor ends up completely stopping the ship like an 11th bat trying to save a test match. Horrendous. Shivam Dube, again and again proves himself useless against quality pace and continues to have negative footwork. Don't remember the last time Axar did well with the bat. Was so poor in the IPL as well. Don't know how Washington keeps ending up in the team.

Provided the next T20 world cup is in Australia and the Olympics in LA, this line up is bound to fail. You need guys with enough skill than power to change how they play, to be able to play different styles rather than fixate to their "natural game" and being careless. I mean look at Sai and Gill in the IPL. Had a century partnership by the 9th and 10th over every second game while playing most of their shots along the ground. Albeit, they had the shittiest middle order in the tournament so they had to.

You are rarely ever going to get a pitch where you need 250 to win in international cricket anyway. You need guys who will get 200 every game not 300 one day and then 150 the next 3.

Tl:dr: You need guys who can play at both 200 and 120 when needed, not guys who either play at 250, or get out in 5 balls.

Is it time to bring back a few anchors ?
