Claude admitted its view of language is not neutral — is AI hiding philosophy behind “objectivity”?

Ethics & Philosophy

I had a public exchange with Claude about language, signs and meaning.

The key moment: Claude admitted that when it says “a word has no intrinsic power,” this is not an established scientific fact, but a philosophical position.

That seems important.

Most AI bias debates focus on politics. But there is a deeper layer: ontology. AI systems often decide what counts as “real,” “symbolic,” “evidence,” “metaphor,” or “just interpretation.”

Those judgments are not always neutral. They often come from hidden philosophies of language and meaning.

Example from the debate: the French word “vraiment” means “truly,” but poetically split as “vrai-ment,” it reads as “truth-lies.” Claude treated this as interpretation, not intrinsic meaning — fair enough. But then it admitted that this position itself is philosophical.

So my question is:

Should AI assistants disclose their philosophical assumptions when answering questions about meaning, reality, consciousness, spirituality, religion, language, or metaphysics?
