Why don’t U.S. colleges and universities work for soccer?

We know athletes training at U.S. colleges and universities win Olympic medals routinely. Stanford athletes alone would rank 21st in the total medal table. Numerous NCAA athletes won medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics representing numerous countries, and not just the U.S. Thus, global athletes come to the U.S., receive training, and go on to be champions in their sport.

I see the pay to play being criticized as well as the collegiate model.

Not quite sure why NCAA training is fine for swimming and dozens of other sports but not soccer.
