How do I cope with my boyfriend not being able to have sex because of a medical condition?
My boyfriend has a medical condition that means we can’t really have sex anymore, at least not anytime soon. From everything we’ve been told, this isn’t something that’s going to be fixed anytime in the near future.
I know how bad this probably sounds, but it’s honestly making me really fucking sad.
We haven’t had sex in almost half a year now. I love him more than anything, and I don’t want him to think that’s all I care about because it absolutely isn’t. But physical intimacy has always been a huge part of how I feel connected to someone. It’s one of my biggest love languages, and I really miss that part of our relationship.
Before anyone asks about other ways of being sexually intimate, that’s kind of part of the problem too. He doesn’t even really want to go down on me anymore, so it’s not just penetrative sex that’s off the table. Our sexual relationship has pretty much stopped altogether.
The hardest part is that I don’t even want to bring it up because I know it would absolutely devastate him. It’s not like he’s choosing this. I know he already feels guilty about it, and I never want him to think I’m disappointed in him or that I love him any less because of something he can’t control
At the same time, I feel guilty for even feeling this way. I know he’s the one dealing with the medical condition, so it feels selfish for me to be struggling too.
Has anyone else been through something similar? How do you cope when sex is an important part of how you experience intimacy, but it’s not something your partner can do? I’m looking for genuine advice because I really want to make this work, and I don’t want to accidentally make him feel worse than he already does.
