Apartments that work w subpar credit

Hi! My boyfriend and I are young first-time renters with subpar credit. We’re hoping to stay on the Portsmouth/Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Chesapeake side but are open to Hampton or Newport News if we can’t find anything elsewhere.

We’re looking for either a one bedroom or studio for no more than 1400 a month, given our budget. We don’t need anything super fancy,, just somewhere decent/safe-ish lol (I grew up in Portsmouth so I’m used to rougher areas).

Also a plus but not necessarily needed: allows pets
