Maytronics Dolphin Robot Maintenance
I'm posting this here first in case anyone else is knowledgeable or has performed maintenance on their own Maytronics Dolphin Robot. Though I realize this isn't exactly an electronics repair subreddit, so this may not be the best community for this question.
My Dolphin robot was having start up issues where it would run for a few seconds and then stop. Typical maintenance for this issue was to clean around the impeller, but unfortunately for me that wasn't the cause. So I took the robot apart and removed the impeller motor.
I opened up the motor itself and gave it a good cleaning. There was a ton of carbon dust inside that was causing it to not be able to spin as smoothly.
After giving it a good cleaning, I put it all back together. However, now I am noticing that the impeller appears to be spinning in the wrong direction. So now through the top of the robot, it is sucking in where it would typically blow out. So it is no longer vacuuming properly, although it is at least running for its full duration, it just isn't actually vacuuming.
So I figured maybe I reversed a part of the motor accidentally after putting it all back together. So I took it all apart again and took another look, however, every single part of this robot appears to be non-reversible. The motor armature, the brushes, the brush board, the magnetic housing, the red/black cables and their associated connector, the impeller itself, the plastic housings. Everything with this robot has either notches to prevent reverse assembly or simply can't be reverse installed due to orientation.
So what I though was a mistake in reassembly turns out not to be the case as far as I can see. So now I have no idea as to why the robot would be flowing water in reverse. Has anyone else performed self-maintenance on their Maytronics Dolphin robot and know what the issue might be?
Unfortunately mine is far outside of warranty as it is several years old now. I'd love to get more years out of this if possible, but as it stands now, all it does is blow debris around the bottom of the pool! 😭
