It's been a week with Google Messages and at first I hated it, but now...

Opinion

I completely frigging loathe it. I can't freaking believe how unbelievably bad it is. It's almost comical.

Every step around every corner is just sheer frustration. I don't understand who designed this, who tested this, and who thought any of it was good design.

The most simple things are now gone or a hassle.

  • Favorite contacts? Gone. I get to scroll through my doctors, old co-workers, my insurance companies, my building manager, etc etc.
  • Sending a msg to multiple contacts? Nope. I get to send it to one person, then share that to the people I want.
  • Want to select a portion of text or digits in a message? Nope. Sorry. No-can-do.
  • Picture attachments from my phone? Sorry, a mentally deranged person designed that. Hope it's a recent picture, if not you get to click four times just to see your gallery folders. How convenient. Oh, and I hope you like giant images rather than thumbs taking up space in your text thread. Not to mention the ugly way it opens up.
  • New messages on top? Nope. Hope I don't get a ton of messages because your message may get buried
  • New message Notifications? Well yes, but the icon is so small on the Always On Display that it is easily unseen.
  • General Customizations? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! 🤣

I am also angry with Samsung for rolling over and taking it knowing they had a much better messaging program and knowing tons of functionality was going away. It's total enshitification. There was a reason I have had Samsung phones for the past four phones, and not a Google Pixel.

I apologize for the rant. I am just miserable with this whole situation. None of the text app alternatives seem all that great. I also refuse to pay for a texting app or deal with ads. It's just a giant feces sandwich out of which we must continually take bites out of.
