Do you trim your long hair in summer?
This is the first year I did it. For hairball reasons.
To start with. I have a non-standard Minuet. I swear his fur is 99% undercoat. Super soft and fluffy, kind of like the cotton in cotton balls. Every end of spring I'd have to start brushing and detangling 2-3 times a day and he would still hack a hairball every 2-3 days.
This year I trimmed his fur - not all of it, I left intact the mane, front legs and back legs, including the ruffles, as well as the tail. He still has about 1" of fur in the trimmed areas. He's a very small cat, barely 7 lbs but with all his fur on looks like a normal size cat.
Result: no more hair balls. Normal once a day brushing.
Here's the boy in all his splendor vs him "naked". Sorry for the second pic being a bit blurry but he decided to move.
