Getting my first root canal super nervous esp abt recover.

Unfortunately I have to get a root canal next week caused by getting my tooth cracked in a sport,it not getting fixed and a cavity beginning to grow there. Iv heard that the actual procedure isn’t too bad with modern medicine but I’m still super anxious about it and guess don’t fully understand it. Will I go under anesthesia? Or is it just like getting a filling where the numb the mouth? Also super worried abt the recovery process honestly more than the actual thing. How long will I be “out of commission” I really enjoy going to the gym and wondering how long I’ll have to take off from it after I get it done? Anything anyone recommends to speed up this process and make sure it heal correctly? Thanks in advanced!
