Question for trainers and coaches: How do you coach an uncoordinated/unathletic person the swing?

Advice Needed

Or maybe you were the person who needed the coaching?

I want my wife to try swinging….

Let me rephrase that - I want to teach my wife the kettlebell swing.

She has shown interest after having our second and final child 7 months ago. I have had her doing deadlifts, goblet squats, and suitcase marches for the last 5 weeks. We just swapped the goblet squats for 2H thrusters. This has been her first weightlifting experience in a very long time. She is used to yoga and Zumba type stuff.

I’m not a coach, but I’ve done plenty of research for myself in my own journey on how to get to where I want to be with kettlebells. It’s just not translating for her. I pick up the athletic stuff quicker than her.

After 5 weeks of DL, goblet squats, and carries, we attempted to learn the swing and it looked pretty bad timing wise and she lacked the snap and explosion in her hips I was trying to get out of her.

Where do you coaches step back to in order to build some explosion in the hips? Timing I think will mostly come with practice, right? I obviously don’t want her hurting herself or practicing bad form - so where do we go? She says watching videos isn’t her best way to learn like it is for me. Going to a lesson or class is probably not going to work at this time since we live far out of town and the appeal to KBs for her has been the accessibility and ease of fitting in a 15-20 min work out for a busy parent yada yada y’all hear it all the time.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
