Saddle worries
I know what you're thinking - just get a bike fit. If I had a good bike fitter in the proximity of where I live, I would.
I have a gravel bike, which is more of a touring/allroad bike. I love it to bits. I just can't seem to find a comfortable saddle. I primarily ride without padded shorts, because the padded shorts I have are super tight on my genital area and they also feel like they're constricting the blood flow to my thighs, despite seemingly being the correct size. So I primarily ride with long training clothes.
My rides are usually 30-35 kilometers 1-2 times a week and a longer 60-80 kilometer ride 1-2 times per week.
Here are the saddles I've tried:
Brooks B17 Special Titanium - I tried this for 2000 kilometers and used plenty of proofide. While it did indeed get more comfortable, I could never get around the perineal numbness. I eventually swapped it for a
Brooks C13 Carved - this saddle is the one that has worked the best for me. It's very comfortable until it isn't - and then it gets very, very uncomfortable. I can do my 30 kilometers with only minor pain, but when the saddle sores hit on my longer rides, I can't find ANY comfortable position.
After some research and recommendations, I tried a Specialized Power EVO Pro Mirror. I currently have it installed on my bike and I was probably expecting too much. I've only tried it for 15 kilometers and I'm unsure if I should give it a try for a longer ride or return it.
It's a hard saddle, I can feel some mild discomfort in my sit bone area, but no perineal pain or discomfort. When I find the correct position it's bliss. On the other hand, it's a $400 saddle, so if it's never going to work, I don't want to waste the money and will just return it.
What do I do?
