Too functioning and no rock bottom. Infuriates me.

Partner/Spouse/Ex

It’s true that no one is a completely “functioning alcoholic.” Typically even if your outer life is great, your inner life or relationships are under duress. This is my husband and it angers me that so long as the rest of his life is high functioning, he seems ok continuing to play moderation mind games and drinking most nights and weekends. He is a high ranking military officer who continuously excels, he runs marathons, he’s very productive in his other hobbies and around our home participating in taking care of things. He has a nice, functional relationship with his parents. Our son worships him. The only person that seems to suffer is me. He has never had a rock bottom, he’s not even that affected by hangovers etc. It’s honestly frustrating because I feel like being high functioning is actually a detriment to recovery because it allows for so much denial.
