Embrace Autism disappointment

Support Needed (Kind Advice and Commiseration)

I have an ASD diagnosis from a psychiatrist in my province, but in order to get federal and provincial consideration, I need a practitioner who can fill out the required forms, and that psychiatrist doesn't do follow up paperwork.

A friend of mine was going to go through the Embrace Autism process because it was accepted by her insurance and jurisdiction so I thought I would try it. I did the initial screening for $625 and it was only then I started to see all the controversy about them.

Well I get the screening stuff back and feel like I wasted my money, but what really upset me is that I asked them flat out if they have a psychologist registered in my province they say yes. Except I can't find them in the psychologist directory.

So I ask for their license number and am told they are licensed in Spain and this license allows them to practice in my province too. But this is not true. Provincial legislation determines this and a foreign jurisdiction cannot simply grant itself the legal ability to license folks to practice here.

I point this out, and ask if they are being supervised by a psychologist here, or do they maybe have a temporary permit, or is there some other way they can practice here legally. Once more I am told their license in Spain allows them to blah blah blah.

I am so angry. They are dancing around the question instead of telling me "no they can't legally practice in your province." A diagnosis from this person would not be accepted where I live! I repeatedly stated the purpose for me seeking this diagnosis and they kept not giving me a straight answer. How can I make an informed decision with these answers?? Also...who there thought they could avoid giving an autistic person a straight amswer? Good lord.

So yeah, I am very disappointed and angry I spent the money I did, spent days filling out the screening documents, and allI have to show for it is a bunch of upset emails. I feel stupid and naive, and to be honest, preyed upon.
