What could I use this for besides confocal microscopy?

I came across this eBay listing. I think this kit was a part of a larger laser confocal microscopy system. I don't have a confocal microscope, but maybe I could just use this as a laser diode driver? Maybe there's a TEC inside that I could use for another project or other cool parts?
