How would you market a simple subscription tracker app with almost no budget?

Hey everyone,

I’m building a small iOS app after work. It helps users track their subscriptions, renewal dates, and reminders before they get charged again.

The product itself is simple, but I’m realizing that marketing a simple utility app is harder than building it.

Right now my biggest challenge is positioning.

If I describe it as “a subscription tracker,” it sounds too generic.
If I focus on “saving money,” it feels a bit too broad.
If I focus on “never forget renewals,” it feels more practical, but maybe not emotional enough.

So I’m trying to understand what angle would work better for an app like this.

A few ideas I’m considering:

  • short TikTok/Reels videos about forgotten subscriptions
  • Reddit posts focused on the problem, not the app
  • App Store screenshots that show “upcoming renewals” clearly
  • a simple landing page with one clear use case
  • targeting people who use many AI, streaming, cloud, and productivity subscriptions

For people who have marketed small iOS utility apps:

What worked best for you in the early days without spending money on ads?

Was it content, Reddit, App Store optimization, Product Hunt, SEO, or something else?

I’d love to hear practical ideas or things you tried that did not work.
