Curveball

I remember when we first started talking I used to call you a curveball. I meant it in the best way possible too. You came into my life so unexpectedly. You weren’t anything I was looking for. I never imagined someone like you was even a possibility. But there you were. So communicative, so eager, so sweet, so interested. So I let down my guard. My misandrist man hating ways were starting to make an exception for you. Soon enough you became someone I got excited to talk to. I enjoyed our conversations. I enjoyed learning about you. You were becoming someone I genuinely liked. Then I realized I did like you. I held onto to that feeling. I was still trying to figure it out. Because the days between conversations would grow. You started calling less. The weekends meant you’d disappear. I was trying to get closer, you were fading. Close to 2 months in I told I liked you. I just needed to say it. I was very vulnerable in that moment. I hadn’t said that to a guy in close to 7 years. I didn’t ask if you felt the same. I didn’t ask for a relationship. I didn’t even ask for clarity. I said it expecting nothing in return. And that’s when I got hit. I didn’t think by expecting nothing in return, you would never return. My apologies for getting the ball bloody when it hit me. It’s still here if you need it for the next girl.
