On Sunday we had a terrible storm hit that caused massive flooding we have never experienced once in the 15 years we have lived here. Unfortunately, I am the half stereotypical male living in his Mom’s basement. The water line came up over a foot and submerged my desktop about almost half way up. It fortunately stopped short of the CPU (9800X3D), thank fucking gaming Jesus! Another blessing is that I turn my UPS off entirely when I leave for the weekend like I did, so I know 100% the computer had zero voltage touching it. Power was also out by the time the basement flooded according to family, it was the first thing to happen.

RTX 5070 fully submerged.
Corsair 850x PSU submerged.
MSI X670E Tomahawk half submerged.
GSkill 32GB DDR5 dual channel 6000 1/4th submerged.

The only thing that did not touch any water?
9800X3D and the Corsair H110i AIO attached to it.

I have provided photos, and I obviously haven’t dared plug any power into this. It was put upright on my bed before the power was restored so there was no chance of accidentally powering the PSU partially. As far as I can tell it is 100% dry now but this was storm surge water coming up from the drains and poured in from outside (it looked like we lived inside a lake for a moment..) so you can tell by the water line in the photos the water was FILTHY. I don’t know if I should just go buy a ton of distilled water and soak the GPU / rinse it out entirely, take off the cooler and heat spreader and apply fresh thermal compound and do the same thing for my memory. I mean for gods sake the memory and GPU are fucking so expensive right now…

God I am sick to my stomach. I wish I had stayed home this weekend. I know there’s gotta be some chance of salvaging this, the CPU is obviously gonna be fine but I don’t want to power it on in this mobo honestly. But I feel like I should be able to salvage the motherboard and GPU and memory if I safely clean it with distilled water??

Basement Flooded with Battlestation, need advice!! :’(
