Toilet leak in half bath
I would love some advice on how to proceed with a toilet leak (toilet installed about three years ago) and possible damage to the subfloor. It started dripping into the basement after flushing, which was visible because the basement has an open ceiling. I had a plumber out to fix the issue (not sure if it’s a failing wax ring or a flange, etc.). He noticed the wood floor is slightly buckled along one or two planks, so he suggested I have the floor ripped out and have a water damage restoration company come out and assess the damage to the subfloor, dry it out, etc. before fixing the toilet. Then have a new floor installed. I closed off the half bath so nobody can use it while I figure out what to do. It has been a little over a month.
My question is: Is his suggestion overkill? If the subfloor is determined to be sound, can I just get the toilet fixed and resume business as usual? The “buckle” in the wood floor is incredibly minor and essentially undetectable visually, but you can feel a small “hump” when you step on it. I want to make sure I take care of everything correctly, but feel like his plan is a bit excessive. Any constructive input on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
