Curious on tongue piercings

So I'm gonna get a check up on my face on Saturday in hopes of getting a tongue piercing!!

I have a few questions on my mind literally days before I'm getting it/after I get it; I know, too late to be asking like 2 questions when I could've searched it ages ago (been wanting it since the start of this year)

- I know the healing time is like 4 to 6 months but after I get it, how long do I wait until I can shorten the bar length?

- Are the cons of teeth damage really bad as they say? I got my braces done ages ago and if this piercing is gonna break them again, Ill probably be upset

These are my main queeries that like, idk, stuck in my head. Theres probably a few smaller ones but I can ask my piercer about it that'll be fine.

Id like to hear other opinions and thoughts on your piercings!!!
