what if he wasn't caught in 1991?

If his victim didn't escape and get the police to come to Dahmer's apartment, do you think Dahmer would have continued on his psychotic murderous rampage, or would he have managed to regain control over himself and go back to "normal" life? Would he have still gotten caught eventually?
