When is a good time for climax in a short?
Hello readers and writers. Im new here and looking forward to sharing my first attempt at horror soon.
In my current short, I will be at about 2,500 words or so. My exposition is about 1,300 to 1,500 and the rising action will be the remainder up to 2,500 or so. The story ends on a climax with no falling action or resolution.
I'm curious if that is too much exposition for a horror short story? Do you want to generally get into the action sooner than that? Or can the horror in some instances be as much as a realization at one point, or an "aha" moment for the reader? Perhaps this is an opinion or preference, but regardless I am curious what you all think.
