Just diagnosed with Psychiatry UK — wow.

Celebrating Success

i’m (26f) have just been diagnosed with ADHD after a life long battle with myself, and the relief I feel of a diagnosis is just unreal. Just to be validated, I actually want to celebrate.

But I do kind of worry about my future with medication in terms of how tricky it‘s going to be. My GP doesn’t do shared care as just a blanket policy, and I worry about the future prices of the medication itself. I have up to a years wait for medication anyway so I suppose that bridge will be crossed at that time. But even titration takes up to 6 months, like I never anticipated how long wait times would be. i naively thought when I’m diagnosed, it‘ll be smooth sailing but maybe not?

I just have so many thoughts running through my head, and I don’t really have anyone to openly talk to about it. I‘m grieving for my younger self, all of the horrible things I had to endure and being budged in a corner for my brother who had ADHD too. Everything I endured during school, etc. It’s a really special, bittersweet moment for me and I’m just trying to process it all.
