Bolloré : the recent dip is a crazy buying opportunity

Stock Analysis

Bolloré (BOL.PA) - this dip is a technical artifact, not a real problem

So Bolloré just paid a special dividend of €1.50/share on top of the regular €0.06, and yeah, the stock dropped roughly that much on the ex-date. That's just math - the cash left the company and went to shareholders, it's not actual value destruction. If you held through the ex-date you got that €1.50 either as cash in your account or as a lower share price. Either way you're not down.

What's actually happening after that though is a bunch of algo/momentum selling that clearly doesn't understand how this company is owned. Bolloré SE isn't some standalone free-floating stock, it's a subsidiary of Compagnie de l'Odet. The majority of the shares are held through a chain of holding companies (Odet, Bolloré Participations, Financière de l'Odet, Sofibol). So when a big special dividend goes out, most of that cash isn't leaving the family's hands, it flows up the chain and can get redeployed, including straight back into buying more BOL stock. An algo that just sees "dividend paid, price should drop mechanically, sell the gap" completely misses that the guy on the other side of the trade owns most of the company.

And that's basically what's showing up in the data right now - insider buying at Bolloré SE has been heavy the last few months, net over €80m, mostly through Bolloré Participations. So while the algos are dumping shares because of a technical dividend adjustment, the family holding company is loading up.

My take: this drop isn't fundamentals, it's mechanical + some dumb momentum selling on top. If nothing about the actual businesses (logistics, Canal+/Havas media, batteries) has changed, this is a mispricing not a re-rating.
