Alcohol and its worst effect
Hey guys,
I'm not really looking for anything specific, I just wanted to share my experience and maybe get some perspective by writing it down.
Alcohol can make people behave in ways that go completely against who they normally want to be. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a good person, responsible, or educated — if you lose control, you can hurt yourself or make situations you deeply regret.
I recently moved into a new flat. I was lonely, didn't speak the local language well, and I started using alcohol too much as a way to cope and have something to do.
Over time I noticed I was developing a bad relationship with drinking. I started doing things that I am ashamed of. Recently, while very drunk, I behaved inappropriately in my apartment building and made a neighbor uncomfortable. I completely understand why she was upset.
I've also had other warning signs, like losing my keys and creating unnecessary problems and costs for myself.
So far, thankfully, it hasn't seriously affected my work or my life, but I can see the direction this could go if I ignore it.
My uncle died because of alcohol, and what scares me is seeing myself starting to follow a similar path, even if I'm still far from that point.
I think this is my wake-up call. Be careful with alcohol, guys. Take care of yourselves.
