Hey all,

I wanted to share a project I've been working on. It's a racing dash built around an ESP32 and an ILI9488 display. My room turns into an oven whenever I'm gaming, and it's basically unbearable in the summer. I had 2 spare 120mm PC fans lying around, and after coming across a few DIY wind simulation builds, I thought it would be a cool to extend that functionality into the dash instead of running it as a separate system. The idea is to centralize handling of the RPM and PWM signals for the fans through the ESP32, with SimHub driving the actual fan speed based on game telemetry.

The fans are powered by a dedicated 12V 1A supply, not off the ESP32 itself. Pulling fan current through the ESP32 felt like a great way to fry the board, so I kept that isolated and I'm just using the ESP32 for signal duty.

Since writing this, I realized it would probably also be good to add a pull-up resistor on each of the fan's RPM signals to 3.3V, since the output is an open collector and might float without one, plus a small series diode on the PWM line to block any potential back-feed from the fan's internal 5V pull-up into the GPIOs. Each fan would get its own RPM pull-up so the two signals stay independent. I added an a simplified sketch at the end. If you have experience with this, let me know if this sounds reasonable or overkill. I am a Computer Engineering student, so I do have a decent background in electronics, but I would still love to hear about stuff I should watch out for.

Once I get the wiring down, I'll start the process of getting SimHub to actually recognize and control the fans through this setup, so it's very much a work in progress. Luckily, I do already have the dash figured out and Simhub recognizes the ESP32 as an Arduino. I just need to fix a few minor performance bugs. I am currently working on a fork of this [GitHub](https://github.com/eCrowneEng/ESP-SimHub), which is definitely a godsend.

I would love to hear any advice and ideas, whether that's on the fan signal handling side, SimHub integration, or the wiring side of things. Happy to share more details of schematics and code if people are interested.

Thanks!
