I’m not sure where to go with my channel

I started of my channel intending to make gaming videos and shorts. And I’ve steadily grown my channel to 160 subs.

But I noticed whenever I post and occasional memey shorts more related to popular events they take off way more and earn me more subs.

Should I focus more on generating memes for content, or still focus on gaming? Or is it good to keep doing a mix of the two genres?
