Utena helped me accept myself as an androgynous girl

DISCUSSION

I (19f) am a tall girl with a flat rectangle frame and PCOS so I have a very androgynous appearance, except for my face which happens to be very cute (not saying that as a flex, I get called ‘cute’ and mistaken for younger a lot). I always got bullied as a kid for being so tall and people even asked me if I was a boy during late elementary and early middle school, despite not having short hair. I was never that insecure about it, but I always struggled with feeling feminine because I felt like anything feminine just felt or looked wrong on me…

I finished Utena last week and now I feel a breath of fresh air. I feel very connected with her gender expression and her princely attitude. I feel like I have finally found something that suits me. I don’t know how to explain this right. This anime has really changed my life and I’m grateful for it. I’ve already watched the Adolescence movie twice and the musical from 1997 once. Now I will read the Adolescence manga.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
