AITAH for upsetting my GF by quoting the Sopranos?
I will try to make this as brief as possible. We've \[25m, 24f\] been dating for about six months.
While on vacation for her brother's wedding, two things happened which made me feel uncomfortable. The first was at dinner, as I met her "best friends," who all live in her hometown. I was having a good conversation with one of them about our jobs.
My gf turned to me mid conversation and said "what the fuck are you talking about?" in a dismissive tone. I shrugged it off, but later, she became upset because a third friend present at the dinner told her she was rude to me and I didn't even get to tell her that it bothered me before I comforted her own upset.
The second incident happened just before we left. I was folding our laundry when her mother offered me a Diet Coke. I said yes, but my girlfriend interrupted and said "when you finish folding our laundry, you can have a soda." I was very annoyed by this and never ended up taking the soda.
When I discussed all of this with her an hour or two later, at the airport, her response was "when you make misogynistic jokes, I get over it. Either you need to stop making misogynist jokes or you need to get over it when I make jokes at the expense of men." I asked her exactly when and how I made a misogynistic joke.
Her response was that during a rewatch of the Sopranos, I quoted Richie Aprile as he said "put my dinner on the table and keep your mouth shut." I have always thought that >!him dying immediately afterwards and getting instant karma!< is hysterical. But apparently that was a joke I made at the expense of women, to her. It was not directed at her or made about her. But she insisted these things were equivalent and that either we need to stop altogether or I have to get over it and be tougher.
What do you think? AITAH?
