Need some good walking shoes

I am getting O L D and my established preference of "whatever is available" tennis shoes is wreaking havoc on my feet and knees during my 3-mile walks. Is there any specialty hiking/running/walking shoe store in the greater-portland area that could help me find a pair of quality walking shoes?
