Your entire 'what do I do with my life' spiral, solved in one afternoon

TLDR; rock up to VU Open Day. Tour the campus, explore careers and courses, get some ideas for your future self. Possibly win a $2000 grant towards your future course.

You ever feel like everyone around you has an answer to “what are you gonna do next year?” They answer so confidently, almost like they’ve known since they were born.

You, meanwhile, have:

🫠 A vague sense that you like some subjects more than others

🫠 47 browser tabs open comparing courses that all sound the same

🫠 A parent who keeps sending you articles about AI-proof careers

🫠 A completely unrelated dream you're not sure counts as a real job

🫠 A sneaking suspicion everyone else is also faking it

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ve been there (yes, including the person writing this Reddit post) and we totally get you.

First of all, you’re not broken. You are not falling behind. Believe it or not, knowing exactly what you want to do in life at 17 or 18[BY1] [EL2]  (or even older) is actually kinda statistically unusual.

And secondly, this is exactly what VU Open Day is for 🙌

Here’s all you need to know about the big day:

📅 VU Open Day 2026

🏞️ Footscray Park – Sunday 16 Aug, 10am–3pm

🏙️ VU City Tower – Sunday 30 Aug, 10am–3pm

🆓 100% free to attend

What VU Open Day actually looks like when you have no plan 👇

The whole point of showing up is that you don't need to arrive with answers. You just need to rock up. Here's what happens when you do:

🛠️ You don't just read about the courses – you get hands-on with them

Reading a course description on a boring brochure isn’t the same as actually getting on the tools. We’re talking VR experiences, simulations, facility tours and SO much more. That’s the general VU vibe ICYMI – practical, skills-first and career-focused 🧰 One more thing: if you really vibe with a course you come across, you can even apply on the spot!

💬 You talk to people who were you, very recently
You’ll get heaps of chances to chat with real VU students at Open Day. Not paid actors. Not super fake enthusiastic admin staff. Actual students who picked a course, started studying it and have opinions about it. Ask them literally anything – like if the coffee is good here (it is), or if they’re actually enjoying their course and can see a real career out of it. They'll tell you the truth. We promise we won't brief them otherwise 🤫

🗺️ You do a campus tour and get the vibe
You can spend all the time you want on a uni website and still not know if a campus feels right until you're on it. Both our campuses are genuinely beautiful – Footscray Park is right on the Maribyrnong River, VU City Tower is 32 floors up in the Melbourne CBD with skyline views.

There's also heaps to do in each area after Open Day wraps up, so you can suss potential post-class hangout spots 👀

What if I go to Open Day and I STILL don’t know what I want?

That’s totally fine! Come for your future you, stay for the vibes, free food and live entertainment.

BUT ALSO... did we mention that you could win 1 of 5 $2000 grants towards your studies?

Yeah, you read that right. All you need to do is register your attendance online and show up. No small text, no fine print (jk there’s T&Cs at the bottom of this post, but you get the point).

Should I rock up if I’m in Year 11 or 12?

You should 100% rock up. You can get all the sweet perks from our VU Early Entry program – we’re talking free gym passes, prize draws, ATARNotes+ subscriptions and even early Conditional Offers. We’ll have plenty of staff on the ground to help you out if you need a hand.

Stoked? Sold? Nice one. Remember – at the end of the day, you don’t need to have everything figured out. All you gotta do now is click the link below, rock up to Open Day and get inspired 🤩

But why VU though?

You know about the award-winning Block Model® right? One unit at a time, and you're only on campus three hours a day, three times a week – so heaps of time for the other stuff in your life.

We're not just about the study-life balance either – we're #1 in Victoria for skills development and #4 in Australia for Employer Graduate Satisfaction. Translation: employers actually want VU grads.
