Law Firm Partners Insisting I Use/Edit AI slop
Hey ya’ll ~ just kinda yelling out into the lawyer reddit void here to see if any of you guys are in a similar boat and/or if this is just the reality of the profession now 💔 I’m a 4th year as transactional associate at a midsize firm and these 40-70 year old partners are ai obsessed and making it my problem constantly.
Today I felt at my wits end after a partner handed me a contract, and also a printed out ‘analysis’ of the contract he generated by pasting the whole damn contract into co-pilot (never mind that the firm just spent big $$$ on the private Lexis AI tool, but go off king). He asks me to draft an email to client with the edits/issues we have with the contract provisions that were spotted by co-pilot. He didn’t even ask me to look over the document itself????? And ofc he expects that this should take very little time at all because “the legwork has been done”. Not only will my brain atrophy from lack of use here, but also I feel a bit worried about, idk, charging our client for potentially inaccurate slop advice when my literal whole job is to review and negotiate contracts!?!? Never mind that I’d like to grow in my practice and have access potable drinking water when I’m older.
Is this happening to yall? Basically, is it futile for me to look for opportunities elsewhere? Is it just slop city as far as the eye can see? Is every law firm infected with old men who can’t format a word document but want to “keep up with technology because ethical rules require it”. I’m loosing my mind (literally and emotionally)
Also, thanks for letting me rant pookies, this subreddit keeps me off the ledge. xoxo.
