Dying Narcissistic Parent

[Advice Request]

I have been building my entire adult like separate from my narcissistic parents. Recently, I have had some contact because my Dad has cancer and under a year to live. I have grieved them, and so being in contact is strange - with my Mom, I have more of a desire to connect (she is pretty withdrawn), with my Dad, I really don't trust him and our bond for our entire life felt very distant - with the only period of "closeness" being when abusiveness in the form of manipulation/gaslighting and self-centeredness the most. Both of my parents were emotionally neglectful, with a short period where my Mom felt more available, but ultimately, she has proven herself unable to empathize in a genuine way that isn't about getting something she wants or connecting. Part of it, is there own lack of skills, immaturity, and narcissism.

I am the adult child that is the closest. When I first heard he has cancer, I reached out. Things have been "amicable" over text, but things can be when riding the surface, pretending, etc. I really f**king hate being told by my Dad he is "proud" of me. I can mostly take it, be angry and then release it and respond with a gray rock, but he does not deserve to be proud of me when he was psychologically abusive.

I was planning on going there, with a plan to cook, to clean, do groceries, and do some passive activity for a short while, but now I am reconsidering. I don't want to feel guilt and regret not following my ethics by helping in some way, even as familiar strangers, but I also really do not trust them. I can see it as a work situation, and let them exist in their delusional world. I don't know, I am torn and wrestling with things. I really do not like my parents as people, they have very messed up viewss and are completely delusional about that and much else.

Anyway, just sharing here and I welcome any thoughts.
