How would M4A (Medicare For All) protect us from Republican budget cuts

If we got M4A, and all private insurance was therefore banned, how would we survive constant Republican budget cuts to healthcare. For instance even now Republicans voted against their own Medicaid and we are constantly facing cuts to Medicare and the VA system. Medicare for All would leave us completely vulnerable to losing coverage, what is the plan to prevent this?
