I (22F) silently cut off the guy I was seeing (20M) after a condom failure. Did I overreact?
I’m 22F and had been seeing a guy, 20M, casually for around three months. We weren’t exclusive and neither of us owed the other a relationship. We would see each other, have sex, have some aftercare and then go back to our separate lives.
We were having sex when the condom came off without either of us realizing, and he ejaculated inside me. We were both shocked. I immediately started looking up emergency contraception and nearby pharmacies.
I stayed relatively calm with him. I told him that i understood it was an accident but it had never happened to me before. He apologized. He waited while I got dressed and walked downstairs with me.
He then told me to send him the bill and that he would pay half of it, I went into the pharmacy alone. Before he left i kissed his cheek and said okay when he offered to pay for half of the pill.
I bought and took the pill, as well as pregnancy tests, but I never sent him the receipt. I was very overwhelmed… only when left alone and after taking the pill the feelings came. The money wasn’t important to me, and after thinking about the situation, I didn’t want any further contact with him.
What disturbed me was that he never checked whether I had actually found or taken the pill. He had no confirmation whatsoever. He didn’t ask whether I was okay, but honestly, even putting my feelings aside, he didn’t ask the most basic practical question: “Did you get it?” or “Did you take it?”
He doesn’t know me well enough to simply assume I handled everything correctly. I could have been unable to find it, misunderstood when to take it, decided not to take it, or had some other problem. This was something that could have had serious consequences for both of us, yet he walked away and never followed up.
After a couple of days with no message from him, I unfollowed him and removed him from my Instagram. I didn’t explain myself, ask for the money, yell at him or send a final paragraph. I just decided I never wanted to sleep with or speak to him again.
I understand that we were casual, but to me this had nothing to do with commitment or romantic expectations. I think basic responsibility still applies when two people are having sex, especially after a pregnancy risk.
I’m not planning to reverse my decision, and I know I technically don’t need a reason to stop seeing anyone. I’m mainly curious about how other people interpret his reaction and mine.
Did I overreact by cutting him off without explaining, or was his lack of follow-up enough reason to be done?
