Advice Needed
Hi everyone,
I have a preschool parent who is concerned because her child has a significant bruise on his forehead. The teachers completed an accident report; however, they did not update the parent as the bruise became more noticeable, even though they applied an ice pack immediately after the incident.
As the supervisor, I have apologized to the family. Since I'm still gaining experience handling situations like this, I would really appreciate any guidance.
The parent is asking what preventative measures we can implement. After reviewing the camera footage, it appears the incident was accidental. The child was standing up after circle time, tripped, and made contact with the table. There were no concerns regarding intentional actions or lack of supervision.
My understanding is that we can reinforce active supervision and, more importantly, improve our communication with families by providing updates if an injury changes in appearance throughout the day. However, I'm struggling with what additional preventative measures would be appropriate, as this appears to be an unfortunate accident that could happen even with proper supervision.
If anyone has suggestions on how to best respond to the parent's concerns or additional measures we could implement, I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you.
