Ground Control to Major Polonium, You Are Cleared for Takeoff

I'm driving along in my SRV, minding my own business, targeting and picking up raw materials. Out of the blue it's like I've driven over a land mine and my SRV is launched into the air. Sometimes it's just a wheelie, sometimes I can see my Mandalay over the horizon. More that once I've been left upside down. Always I take damage. A couple of times I've found myself stuck in a brain tree or up against a rock that I've just barely been able to escape from. So I guess my question is: what the damn hell? Am I just not a good driver? Is there a reason every once in a while I find a stick of dynamite hidden in the raw material? And lastly, is there anything I can do to minimize my unplanned flight time? Thank you CMDRs. Carry on. o7
