Suicide according to Hindu beliefs

Namaste sadhaks, I have been doing bhairava upasana, A person in my neighborhood commited suicide recently. It makes me wonder what happens when someone commits suicide according to Hindu beliefs? Is there a karmic backlash or any sort of punishment or such if one dies like that?
